As I approached the age of 50, I wanted to improve my overall fitness and flexibility to offset the impact of having a job that requires a lot of sitting.

Pilates appeared to be the best way to achieve that goal, so I purchased an instructional DVD and got started. To be sure, the DVD was helpful, but eventually I felt formal coaching would be needed to achieve the results I desired.

In 2005, I was referred to The Edge Pilates by another client. I made a commitment to myself to attend classes 2-3 times a week for the next 4 months to see what could happen.

At The Edge I found myself in the good hands of qualified staff who taught me how to do the exercises in a safe, effective manner. Very challenging and fun at the same time! From the moment I started in late September through mid January, I experienced a noticeable change in strength, flexibility as well as lengthening of muscle. A lot of other people noticed too!

Also, doing Pilates has enhanced my life when big physical challenges occurred. In 2008, I experienced a serious back injury at work and a lot of talk of back surgery. In August of 2015 I had quadruple bypass surgery. In the first instance, physical therapy and Pilates kept me away from the surgeon’s hands. In the second instance, my recovery was enhanced partially due to how fit I was. I returned to Pilates in mid November, 2015.

I think Pilates will give you a challenge and provide you with the change you’re looking for. In particular, I think men should make Pilates a part of their fitness routine!

I have been with The Edge about 9 years. I overcame chronic hip and back pain all while managing 4 little kids, through consistent work with their trainers. The healing was just the tip of the iceberg as far as lifelong benefits. I am forever grateful for being brought into an incredible dimension of wellness in mind, body, and spirit with their classes. I was introduced to Pilates by an Orthopedic doctor for hip and knee problems. The concept of stretching and strengthening is what attracted me to Pilates, and it's the quality of the instruction at The Edge Pilates Studio that has kept me there. My husband began Pilates with me and appreciates the core strengthening, balance, and overall flexibility Pilates promotes. Having a regularly scheduled workout for both of us with a great group of people helps keep us on track. Pilates has allowed me to continue playing softball and my husband to remain injury-free while enjoying cross-country skiing, canoeing, and biking. Now we give each other the gift of Pilates for our Birthday's, holiday's, and anniversaries. We're addicted!
